Abayomi Brownfield is a multidisciplinary artist and educator based in Sacramento, California, whose work combines self-reflection, healing, and cultural reclamation. Drawing on Black Southern, Black Choctaw, and Black Chickasaw ancestry, and inspired by Yoruba, Igbo, and Bakongo cultural traditions, she examines the complexities of Black and Afro-Indigenous identity, memory, and belonging.

Abayomi works in a variety of mediums, including textiles, painting, found objects, and illustration, examining personal and collective histories and the relationships between vulnerability, resilience, and transformation. Her work respects ancestral knowledge and the wide range of cultural expressions within the African diaspora while also challenging the colonial definitions of race, gender, and belonging. Through her artistic practice, she offers an opportunity to reconnect with cultural heritage, reclaim one's identity, and imagine possibilities beyond the boundaries imposed on us.
